Castilleja indivisa, Texas Indian Paintbrush or Entireleaf Indian Paintbrush is an extremely popular, well known wildflower and an important source of nectar for hummingbirds.  The inconspicuous flowers bloom within a dense cluster of beautiful leafy bracts that are brilliant shades of orange, red, or sometimes yellow. Indian Paintbrush grows in a variety of conditions including moist and well-drained, dry, or sandy prairies that are moist in the spring. Indian Paintbrush plants prefer full sun or light shade.  Indian Paintbrush seeds are very tiny, when planted in spring/summer usually germinate in the fall and bloom the next spring without pretreatment.

Castilleja indivsa Indian Paintbrush may need exposure to a few weeks of cool moist conditions before it will germinate.

Texas Indian paintbrush is a popular wildflower occurring wild in prairies, glades, open moist woodlands, and along streams in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.  Scrophulariaceae (Figwort Family)
