Cunila origanoides Common Dittany is a pleasantly scented member of the mint family growing only 8 to 18 inches tall with light lavender to white flowers.  Cunila origanoides Common Dittany leaves are aromatic and minty when crushed.   They can be used to make a fragrant herbal tea, 3 to 4 dried or fresh leaves are placed in a cup of boiling water with honey.  Cunila origanoides Common Dittany will be an attractive addition to your butterfly garden.   

Cunila origanoides Common Dittany seeds are very small. At first frost, a phenomenon popularly known as "frost flowers" may occur wherein watery sap which is pushed out of stem cracks near the base becomes frozen in ribbon-like, 2" projections.

Native Cunila origanoides Common Dittany plants occur naturally in open and dry rocky woods, roadsides, and borders of glades from Alabama to Texas north to Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Kansas.  Lamiaceae (Mint Family)
