Palafoxia callosa
or Small Palafox is a very attractive native annual wildflower with pink to rose-lavender flowers and in the wild usually forms large stands on rocky barrons.  Palafoxia callosa is a great addition to a naturalized wildflower meadow planting, due to its ability to provide color the first year before the perennials mature and begin to bloom.  Small palafoxia provides an airy accent to the fall prairie garden.  Best grown in full sun and dry to average well drained soils.  Great reseeding annual for the xeric flower garden.  Palafoxia may be cut back in early summer to keep the plant shorter and more compact.  Palafoxia is a very showy flower and will be an excellent addition to both formal flower gardens and butterfly gardens.

Native Palafoxia callosa is showy annual wildflower occurring naturally on limestone or dolomite glades, bald knobs, sandy or rocky open ground, and along gravel streambeds from Missouri and Arkansas, to Oklahoma and Texas.   Asteraceae (Aster Family)
