Silene regia, royal catchfly has striking crimson-scarlet or bright red flowers rivaling Cardinal Flower for intensity.  Plant native Royal Catchfly wildflower with coneflowers, Black-eyed Susan, and Culver's root in average to rich well drained soil and full sun.  Royal Catchfly is a favorite of both gardeners and hummingbirds.

Native Royal catchfly is currently on the endangered or threatened species list in several states but is easily propagated from seed and multiplies in the wildflower garden.  Royal Catchfly seed germination is improved after a pretreatment of 2 to 3 weeks of cold moist stratification or planting outside in the fall or winter.

Silene regia is an elegant flower occurring naturally in open woods, glades, meadows, and prairies from Georgia to Louisiana and Oklahoma, north to Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.    Caryophyllaceae (Pink Family)

The map below shows areas where Silene regia Royal Catchfly plants grow wild but it is hardy over most of the Midwest and Eastern US.  Plant in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 to 9.
